You are currently viewing the "About Pops" page. Hello, My name is Lou Hall and I've been keeping it green, living off the grid, near Belcher, in Washington County, for the last fifteen years. I have two sons. Brian & Lou Jr.. Lou called me pops so long, it started sounding like a good fit for the business name so I used it. I'm 55
and my first real exposure to what was then called "new technology" goes
back to 1968 at Guilderland Central High School where they offered one
of the first computer programming courses in the state of NY. As simple
as it might have been by today's standards, it was like science fiction
to me! We used two IBM 029 Keypunch Machines, an 056 Punch Card Verifier,
and an IBM 082 Sorter. The Sorter was by far the most the most fun to use
as it required flow-charting, and physically wiring a large board on the
side of the machine for each new job that you programmed it to complete.
I guess it was no coincidence that one of my first part-time jobs during
my junior and senior years of high school was as a keypunch operator with
the NYS Department of Income Tax & Finance in Building #8, at the then
brand new, SUNY Albany Campus.
In one capacity or another, I've continued to work (and play) with computer hardware, software, and various other gadgets ever since. Along the way, I've always enjoyed helping others solve their computer problems as well. My resume can be found at the bottom of this page: Thanks
for visiting my website.
